'Swarms' find may help predict earthquakes

MENLO PARK, Calif., Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Taking advantage of the largest swarm of earthquakes ever recorded, scientists have uncovered mechanisms that could lead to improved earthquake predictions and damage projections. The international team studying temblors off the shores of Japan has uncovered clues to why Earth's crust deforms catastrophically in some shakers, they said in Nature.
