Urban sprawl worsens drought, report says

WASHINGTON, Aug. 28 (UPI) -- Urban sprawl and the paving of American cities is reducing the amount of groundwater available to communities, three conservation groups reported Wednesday. The groups found the impervious surfaces that characterize sprawl development result in a substantial loss of water filtration to recharge groundwater aquifers.
