Court: S. African govt must give AIDS drug

JOHANNESBURG, South Africa, July 5 (UPI) -- A South African court Friday rejected the government's appeal and upheld a decision last year requiring the government to make AIDS medication available to pregnant women infected with HIV with the aim of preventing the transmission of the virus to their infants. The drug nevirapine can reduce the incidence of transmission of HIV between mother and child by up to 50 percent.
