Rare anemia gene linked to breast cancer

BOSTON, June 13 (UPI) -- Six genes linked to a rare inherited blood disease called Fanconi anemia may also play a role in inherited breast cancer, researchers reported Thursday. If the findings are confirmed, women could be tested for eight genetic markers for breast cancer, but other cancer geneticists warn it is too soon to predict a role for the Fanconi genes in testing for breast cancer.
