Circumcision may reduce HIV transmission

ORLANDO, Fla., June 1 (UPI) -- Circumcision might help prevent the spread of AIDS because human foreskin contains large numbers of cells that are the targets of the human immunodeficiency virus, which causes the disease, researchers suggested Saturday. Controversy over the protective value of circumcision has centered on HIV transmission because the rate of AIDS in Africa is lowest where circumcision is practiced.
