Mild depression may protect elderly women

DURHAM, N.C., April 30 (UPI) -- New research suggests mild depression may actually be protective among elderly women, contradicting a mound of evidence that depression accelerates premature death. Women 65 and older experiencing mild depression were 60 percent less likely to die as women of the same age who either showed no signs of depression or who suffered more severe depression, the research reported.
