Staph vaccine has promise and limitations

OAKLAND, Calif., Feb. 13 (UPI) -- An experimental vaccine designed to prevent one of the most common infections people get in hospitals, Staphylococcus aureus, has shown some promise in clinical trials, researchers said Wednesday. After about nine months, however, a study shows the effectiveness of the vaccine diminishes, with more vaccinated patients getting infections than those who were not vaccinated.
