Long recovery from mass extinction seen

WASHINGTON, Nov. 13 (UPI) -- The jet engines aboard the Airbus A300 that crashed in New York Monday are among the most flown engines in commercial aviation, but the CF6s have a history of in-flight break-ups and disintegration of parts, records show. The problem has lead to a continuing effort by the Federal Aviation Administration and the engine's maker, General Electric, to improve its design, assembly, and maintenance procedures.
