Smallpox effort needs more than vaccine

WASHINGTON, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- U.S. health officials and a pharmaceutical company representative told a Senate committee Friday that 300 million doses of updated smallpox vaccine will be on hand by the end of 2002. Local public health agencies need much more federal support, however, to use that vaccine effectively, a Boston health official said.
