RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, N.C., Oct. 10 (UPI) -- Using the atom-scale tools of nanotechnology, scientists have created a unique composite material of thousands of ultra-thin layers of two different semiconductors. The feat, called the biggest advance of its kind in 40 years, has a wide array of potential applications, from DNA microarrays to temperature-regulated car seats, scientists said in the journal Nature.
