U.S. Jobless Rate Hits 8.9%, but Pace of Losses Eases

The economy lost 539,000 jobs in April, the government reported on Friday, a sign that the relentless pace of job losses was starting to level off.

Spain's jobless rate surges to 17.4%

MADRID, April 24 (UPI) -- Unemployment in Spain grew to 4.01 million people in 2009's first quarter, pushing the jobless rate to 17.4 percent, worst in the European Union, officials say.

Japan September jobless rate eases
