Alistair Darling turns to Keynes as he looks to spend his way out of recession

On the wall of Alistair Darling's somewhat austere Treasury office is an unremarkable looking oil painting - a landscape by Douglas Grant a Scottishborn painter and member of the Bloomsbury group who was for a time the lover of John Maynard Keynes the economist.
