Rams' missing RB Tre Mason admitted to hospital

Los Angeles Rams running back Tre Mason, who has been out of the touch with the team for seven months, was admitted to a hospital in late July after his mother called police in South Florida.

According to a police report obtained by ESPN, Palm Beach County Sheriff's officers arrived at his mother's house in Lake Charleston, Fla., after Tina Mason called to report her son was "acting unusual and making irrational statements."

The Rams have been in contact with Mason's family and his agent, Bus Cook, but have been unable to get answers about his condition or his whereabouts, according to ESPN.

Per reports, Mason had at least five police incidents in the offseason, a span of four months. His family encouraged Mason to consider treatment. Mason, who turns 23 on Saturday, was arrested in March on charges of reckless driving, marijuana possession and resisting arrest.

According to the police report in late July, Tre Mason told officers that "he was going to call the White House and we were all going to lose our jobs" and that "the police were responsible for teaching al-Qaida how to fly planes."

Police, after observing a hole had been punched in the wall of Mason's bedroom and seeing a broken vase and lamp, determined that Mason wasn't fit "to make decisions" for himself at the time. Mason was taken to the hospital for a small laceration on his hand as well as observation, according to ESPN.

Mason was officially placed on the reserve/did not report list when the Rams began training camp last week and he was previously excused from OTAs for what the team labeled "personal reasons."

"I haven't personally spoken with Tre since the season ended," Rams coach Jeff Fisher told reporters earlier. "I tried numerous times to reach him. Tre has made a decision not to communicate with us, not to talk. Not talking to his teammates. Right now we're more concerned about Tre Mason's well-being than we are his football career."

Mason, who was selected in the third round of the 2014 draft out of Auburn, played in 13 games last season for the Rams, when he became a backup to rookie running back Todd Gurley. Mason had 75 rushes for just 207 yards and one touchdown.
