rapid diagnostic test for tuberculosis (TB) has been reduced by 40
percent under a new agreement between the US government, the Bill and
Melinda Gates Foundation, and the health financing mechanism, UNITAID.

UGANDA: Children's HIV treatment must improve

KAMPALA, 9 August 2012 (PlusNews) - HIV activists have called on the
Ugandan government to urgently address the rollout of paediatric HIV
treatment; just 26 percent of children who need the life-prolonging
antiretroviral drugs have access to them, compared to 55 percent of
adults.

UGANDA: Weaning Karamoja off food aid

KAMPALA, 9 August 2012 (IRIN) - Uganda's arid northeastern Karamoja
region has been dependent on food aid for decades, but new programmes
by the government and its partners aim to bring an end to the cycle of
relief and see the traditionally nomadic Karimojong become more
self-sufficient through more settled livelihoods.
