Ogbulafor commends
opposition parties in
Bayelsa campaign
NAN-H-1
Ogbulafor
Yenagoa, May 11,
2008 (NAN) Chief
Vincent Ogbulafor,
the National Chairman
of the PDP, has
commended the
efforts of the
opposition parties in
Bayelsa state, ahead
of the May 24 state re-
run governorship
election.
Ogbulafor, who stated
that their challenge
had helped to
strengthen the PDP,
spoke on Saturday at
the flag off of the
party's campaign in
Yenagoa.
He said that the
determination of other
parties in the state to
wrestle power from
the ruling PDP had
provided the much
needed tonic for it to
excel at the poll.
"I am standing here to
commend the efforts
of the Action
Congress and other
parties to challenge
the PDP for the
governorship position
in Bayelsa state", he
said.
Ogbulafor lauded the
people for their
support for PDP,
saying that Bayelsa is
a solid land that is
"flowing with milk and
honey."

"We at the National
secretariat shut down
our offices to come
and throw our support
for our candidate in
demonstration of our
love for the people of
Bayelsa state,''
he stated.
The chairman called
on all Bayelsans to
come out in large
numbers and vote
Chief Sylva into office.
Also, Senate
President David Mark
assured Bayelsans
that the PDP would
win in a peaceful, free
and fair election.
He said the PDP
government would
continue to protect the
rights of the citizens
and ensure justice at
all levels of
government.
Mark said he was
overwhelmed with the
massive turn out of
Bayelsans, noting that
the development
underscored the
people's belief in the
party.

The ANPP in the state
added its support to
the PDP at the rally,
when its governorship
candidate in last
year's election, Chief
Bethel Amabebe, said
that PDP had the
support of the ANPP in
the coming election.
Amabebe, the State
Commissioner for
Environment in
Sylva's
cabinet, described the
former governor as a
man of wisdom
who has vision to
transform the state.
"The ANPP in Bayelsa
State, which I
represent, will partner
with the PDP to bring
back Chief Timipre
Sylva as governor",
he assured.
The News Agency of
Nigeria (NAN) reports
that the campaign rally
was well attended.
