Asaba, May 10, 2008 (NAN) Local government elections
took place today in Delta amidst complaints by voters
and party agents of late arrival of polling materials.
Voters were sighted as early as 8.30 a.m. in some polling
booths in the Asaba metropolis but officials of the state's
Independent Electoral Commission were not there.
At the Oshimili South ward nine voters were seen milling
around the primary school waiting for the arrival of officials
and voting materials at about 9.30 am.
A PDP agent, Mr Stanley Efedua, told the News Agency
of Nigeria (NAN) that the materials had yet to arrive.
NAN correspondents, who monitored the elections in
the state, report that in many areas voting could not
commence on time due to the non-availability of voting
materials.
