Kabwe, March 03, 2008--CENTRAL Province has a total number of 2,624 inmates as of today, Mukobeko Maximum Prison Officer in Charge George Sikaonga has disclosed.
He said this during the opening of the High Court Criminal Sessions by justice Reuben Mwape in Kabwe today.
Superintendent Sikaonga said that the situation in the prisons in terms of food was okay.
And during the court session a 26 year old man appeared before Judge Mwape with a charge of aggravated robbery, contrary to section 294 cap 89 of the laws of the laws of Zambia.
Facts before the court are that Eugene Mulungu on June 6, 2007, being armed with a shavel did steal from Costa Kambole two T-Shirts, two Skirts, a small radio and money amounting to K77,000.00.
Mulungu after and during the theft threatened the victim with violence.
Judge Mwape set March 11, this year as the day for commencement of trail.
In another case, Trust Mweenda Hingandu, 41, was committed to court for Causing Death by Dangerous Driving (CDDD) contrary to section 161(1) cap 464.
Facts before the court were that Hingandu on November 9, 2007 in Mkushi district did cause the death of Moses Chinyama.
Hingandu, on the material day was driving a Mercedez Benz tuack Registration number AAE 3876, on Great East Road in a manner that was dangerous to road users and drivers.
