Pi Day celebrates the mathematic symbol pi, which is the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter. It is typically referenced as being 3.14, but it has a never ending amount of numbers in it. Saturday represents Pi Day in the United States, because March 14 is written as 3/14. Many other places put the day first in a date. Advertisement Tyson made his usual pun-based jokes, such as saying he's "Pi-lingual." Yup. I've been Pi-Lingual since childhood. I want to be ready. May need it in a first exchange of greetings with Space Aliens— Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson) March 14, 2015 Best Pi-Day Ever: 53 minutes & 58 seconds after 6 o'clock, March 14, the year 1592: 3/14/1592; 6:53:58— Neil deGrasse Tyson (@neiltyson) March 14, 2015 Italian astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti, who lives in the International Space Station, also made jokes.
