ROCKPORT, Mass., Feb. 11 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts school is re-examining a decision it made last week to enforce a dress code ban on yoga pants after students protested the policy.

Rockport Middle/High School officially banned the form-fitting leggings after teachers said during a staff meeting that the tight pants were distracting students.

Robert Liebow, the Rockport Superintendent of Schools, claimed that ban was justifiable because the student handbook contains a clause prohibiting “leggings worn as pants.”

Several girls were forced to change on Friday and one was even sent home.

“Rockport has a tendency to address these things in an explosive manner,” 16-year-old junior Alex Arnaud told the Eagle Tribune.

On Monday, students were upset enough about the decision that school decided to create a committee to examine “modifications or changes based on the public nature of the dress code discussion last week.” In the meantime, the ban is over.

Jade Barry, a 15-year-old freshman, says she just wears them because "they’re comfortable."

“This is the prudent approach to have everyone weigh in on what should be acceptable dress for school,” Liebow told CBS Boston. “Rockport is an awesome school.”
