His father, Randall, was unable to speak with the owner so the 17-year-old high school quarterback stayed home. He found out he had been fired the following day.
"It was all about you can't. You can't represent your team. There's something wrong with that," Nathaniel told KREM. "I'm a die hard.”
"We're very passionate about it," Randall added.
Even though the situation sounds like it should draw a penalty flag, apparently Odyssey 1 was playing by the rules.
"It's a petty move on the part of the employer," said Patrick Leo McGuigan of HKM Employment Attorneys in Seattle. "An employer has a common law right to terminate for no cause, good cause or a cause that's morally wrong, as the courts like to point out."
Even though he’s a Broncos fan, some Seattle supporters think what happened to Nathanial is ridiculous.
"I think it's crazy," said Seahawks fan Bernie Crump. "We're civilized here. It's not like we live in Philadelphia!"
