Lucus, chaplain of the New York City Sanitation Department, touched on a number of racial issues during his address and called for a “reconstruction” of the city.
“Sound forth the trumpets of heaven proclaiming a new Emancipation Proclamation in New York City,” Lucas said.
“For your divine leadership, emancipate every New Yorker from the shackles of fear, futility, and frustration. Help us to be mastered by only the masters of love and compassion. Let integrity never stand on the auction block or be sold to the highest bidder.”
De Blasio vowed to end income inequality in New York City during his campaign.
“Free us from the shackles of partisan politics, political correctness, and personal egos and agendas,” Lucas said.
During his inauguration speech, de Blasio thanked Lucas by name.
“Oh God, Oh God, Oh God, Oh God, Oh God,” Lucas concluded. “End the civil wars and usher in a new Reconstruction Era that builds upon the many successes and achievements of yesterday while proclaiming the beginning of a new beginning. Let the plantation called New York City be the city of God, a city set upon the hill, a light shining in darkness.”
