The New Orleans Saints are saying that it isn’t a balanced offensive attack or making key defensive stops on third down that will help them win on the road in Philadelphia on Saturday night when they take on the Eagles -- it’s Popeyes chicken.

“Coach has got to give us Popeyes in the plane again,” said wide receiver Robert Meachem. “Everybody’s talking about that. Every road trip in ’09 we had Popeyes. Coach needs to bring back the Popeyes. Wherever we play, whoever we play, when we get on the plane -- have the Popeyes ready.”

The team was 7-1 on the road in 2009 and won Super Bowl XLIV over Indianapolis. This year, the Saints are just 3-5 away from New Orleans.

Since returning from suspension, head coach Sean Payton has held off on serving up the chicken, a stance he might want to alter in an effort to get the Saints their first-ever win in a road playoff game.

“We’ve had Popeyes since ’09, but just not this year,” said running back Pierre Thomas. “Oh, we had it so much in ’09. Popeyes has been good to us. I think we’ll have Popeyes on the plane this time.”

Payton is definitely changing up at least one thing.

“He said we’re adding in a new Gatorade flavor for the week,” said defensive end Cam Jordan.

“All we have to do is go to work and keep playing well,” Meachem said.

“And bring the chicken,” added wide receiver Lance Moore. “Don't forget the chicken.”
