Burger King: French fry burger

Burger King introduced a budget-friendly burger stuffed with french fries in an attempt to compete with the McDonald’s Dollar Menu. The "french fry burger" will cost just $1. Burger fans imagining beef patties piled high with French fries will be disappointed -- each serving comes with only four fries.

McDonald’s: Mighty Wings

McDonald’s began its rollout of Mighty Wings September 9, and the wings had arrived in every U.S. store by Sept. 24. The wings sold through November in three-, five- and 10-piece packs, flavored with cayenne and chili pepper and a choice of sauce -- creamy ranch, honey mustard or tangy barbecue. The wings sparked some fears that the large-scale rollout would shorten wing supply and drive prices up.

Burger King: Satisfries

Burger King launched lower-calorie, lower-fat crinkle-cut fries, dubbed Satisfries, available throughout North America. The Satisfries contain 30 percent less fat and 20 percent fewer calories than Burger King's current fries, and 40 percent less fat and 30 percent fewer calories than the fries at rival McDonald's.

Burger King: Hands-free Whopper holder

For burger lovers who like to multi-task, Puerto Rico's Burger King introduced the Hands-Free Whopper in May. Burger King gave away 50 of the devices to customers who participated in the fast food chain's loyalty rewards program. Taco Bell: Waffle Taco

Taco Bell, the company that has already introduced you taco shells made of Doritos, will expanded its test of its new waffle taco to 100 new locations. The waffle taco will make up part of the fast food chain's "First Meal" breakfast menu, which also includes lighter options like yogurt and oatmeal. "Our breakfast test menu reflects what our customers tell us they want from Taco Bell," a rep said in a statement. "So while they expect us to put a twist on the traditional tastes of breakfast with menu items like the Waffle Taco and AM Crunchwrap, they also want balanced options like oatmeal and yogurt parfait."

Popeyes: Waffle-batter chicken tenders

Fast-food chain Popeyes is set to offer a new chicken meal inspired by the dietary habits of jazz musicians in Los Angeles in the 1930s to 1950s, officials say.

The limited-time Chicken Waffle Tenders -- boneless chicken strips with a waffle batter, served with a honey maple dipping sauce -- was inspired by a restaurants where jazz musicians stopped in for a bite to eat after they gig was done. Too late for dinner and too early for breakfast, the restaurant dipped pieces of chicken in waffle batter and deep-fat fried it and served it in the wee hours.

Wendy’s: Pretzel Burger

Having already tested the Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger in several markets, Wendy's debuted its premium-priced burger option nationwide in fall of 2013. The idea of putting a bacon cheeseburger on a dense pretzel bun is part of the food company's plan to focus on more varied bread options, from flatbreads to artisan buns.

Carl’s Jr: Pop-Tart ice cream sandwich

Carl's Jr. is rolling out what may be the most brilliant idea for a dessert ever. Customers spotted hand-scooped strawberry pop-tart ice cream sandwiches at a Newport Beach location of the fast food chain. According to Foodbeast, the chain is likely testing out the dessert as the latest in "line with the fast food chain's recent line of ice cream cookie sandwiches, following up on both an Oreo ice cream sandwich and a chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich."

Taco Bell: Cool Ranch Doritos Locos Taco

Taco Bell began serving its world famous tacos in a Cool Ranch Doritos shell on March 7 as a follow-up to its success with the Nacho Cheese version. In 2013, Taco Bell said it exceeded $1 billion in sales of the Doritos Locos Tacos. Tragically, The man who came up with the extremely lucrative idea, Todd Mills, passed away on Thanksgiving without ever making any money from his vision for cheesy tortilla chip-encrusted fast food.
