Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe After making a regular pickup at the Bellagio on Monday morning, a doorman handed Las Vegas cab driver Gerardo Gamboa a brown paper bag that someone had left in the backseat. Gamboa figured the bag contained chocolates and simply tossed it onto the passenger seat. Advertisement When he hit a red light, Gamboa decided to take a look inside the bag. “What kind of chocolates are they?” he said. “Are they good ones that I could buy some for my wife as a present?” When he opened the bag however, he didn’t find chocolates; Gamboa discovered six bundles of $100 bills totaling $300,000. “My God, this is cash money,” he said. The 13-year veteran cabbie notified his dispatcher about what he had found and then headed back to Yellow Checker Star Transportation’s main office. In order to help track down the rightful owner of the money, Checker Star called in the Las Vegas Police Department. One person without identification showed up to claim the cash, but Checker Star didn’t want to hand over the money without proper ID. The police now believe that the money belongs to a prominent poker player who hasn’t been identified at this time. Advertisement “This is the largest amount we have found in my 32 years in this business,” said Yellow Checker Star chief operating officer Bill Shranko. “Recently, we found $9,000, but that’s no longer a big deal.” Gamboa said he wouldn’t mind a Christmas bonus, but he isn’t counting on one. “Even though I am a poor guy, I don’t need money that doesn’t belong to me,” said Gamboa. “Tomorrow, I go back to work,” he said.
