During a toy drive in Southeast Washington on Tuesday morning, a black man in a Santa Claus suit was shot twice in the back with a pellet gun.

The incident took place at the 22nd annual Barry Farm toy drive.

The shots were reportedly fired from a nearby home and the victim was transported to a local hospital with the pellets still lodged in his body.

The Santa apparently wanted to continue on with the toy drive, but it appears that there was another holiday character able to step in for him.

Police and fire officials are on the scene investigating.

The toy drive was able to make Christmas a little bit merrier for about 600 kids.
