After the Seattle Seahawks had their 14-game home-field winning streak snapped during a 17-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, Democratic Washington State Rep. Joe Fitzgibbon called Arizona a “desert racist wasteland” on Twitter.

Fitzgibbon, who had been tweeting about the game while it was going on, quickly deleted the tweet, but not before people were able to grab some screenshots.

In an interview, Fitzgibbon said that Washington citizens "have not appreciated" Arizona's treatment of immigrants through discriminatory legislation and that he hopes state lawmakers will consider changing laws that lead to racial profiling.

That said, he seemed to realize his tweet might have taken things a little bit too far. "If folks are going to take that too seriously, then I'm sorry about that," Fitzgibbon said.
