After concerns about the legitimacy of the business delayed the opening of the Snuggle House for a month, it appears that those same concerns caused it to close.
“The push back and harassment is not worth it, honestly,” the business wrote on its Facebook page.
Madison officials were worried that the Snuggle House could be a front for prostitution and were also concerned that the business lacked a business plan. They won’t have to worry any longer.
“The Snuggle House is Officially Closed -- for good. For those people who supported us, thank you. Snuggle on!” read the post announcing the closure of the business.
Alderman Mike Verveer of the 4th District said a number of his constituents approached him with questions about the Snuggle House. Verveer was “a healthy skeptic of their business model. But I was keeping an open mind.” He added, “My guess would probably be that they just didn’t have the business that they anticipated."
Although the Snuggle House will no longer be giving out hugs, local churches will be the recipients of the furniture that the business no longer needs.
