Dec. 9 (UPI) -- A robber who stole a beer from a Seattle gas station on Friday night was so desperate to get away with it that he shot the store clerk in the ankle when he gave chase.

Police say that an accomplice picked up the beer-snatcher after he left the 76 Gas Station just after 8 p.m. Friday.

“A (Chevrolet) Caprice drives out to pick up the dude that's running. And right here at this corner we have a shooting where the clerk gets shot in the leg over a beer,” said Captain Neil Low, Seattle Police Department.

The getaway car was described as a 1985 model Chevy Caprice and police say the suspect was wearing khaki pants, a green coat and a red scarf. They also say they have clear surveillance video.

Though the gunman and accomplice have not been found, a vehicle matching that description was stopped with two women inside. Detectives had the car towed and plan to search it for evidence.

The clerk was taken to Harborview Medical Center and treated for his injury.
