Pizza Hut GM allegedly fired for refusing to open on Thanksgiving

"Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only two days that they're closed in the whole year and they're the only two days that those people are guaranteed to have off and spend it with their families," former GM says.

Nov. 27 (UPI) -- A former Pizza Hut general manager in Indiana is feeling burned this Thanksgiving because he says he was fired for refusing to open on the holiday.

In his ten years at Pizza Hut, Tony Rohr worked his way up to his management position from being a cook.

Rohr claims he was told during a meeting with bosses that opening on Thursday was mandatory. He tried to stick up for his employees and told his superiors that he would not be opening his restaurant on Thanksgiving.

"I said, 'Why can't we be the company that stands up and says we care about our employees and they can have the day off?'" Rohr said.

"Thanksgiving and Christmas are the only two days that they're closed in the whole year and they're the only two days that those people are guaranteed to have off and spend it with their families."

After he was asked to write a letter of resignation, Rohr instead wrote a letter explaining his position.

"I am not quitting. I do not resign, however I accept that the refusal to comply with this greedy, immoral request means the end of my tenure with this company. I hope you realize that it's the people at the bottom of the totem pole that make your life possible."

While speaking with WSBT, one of Rohr’s superiors said that Rohr wasn’t fired but that he quit.
