Nov. 12 (UPI) -- A father and son duo are in custody and being charged with kidnapping the father’s ex-wife and performing an exorcism on her because they believed that she was possessed by a demon.

Lt. Mike Jones of the San Joaquin Sheriff’s Department says 42-year-old Jose Magana-Farias and 20-year-old Victor Farias met up with Magana-Farias’ ex at a Walmart in north Stockton under the pretense of making the marriage work.

After she willingly got in the car, Magana-Farias and Farias picked up a priest in south Stockton and a second priest at Bay Point. They then performed an exorcism where the woman was drenched with sacred oil and “purified.”

The woman was not tortured and she was found unharmed.

The two men are being held on charges of kidnapping, conspiracy to commit a crime and false imprisonment. They are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.

“He’s a real nice guy. He works every day -- six days a week.… [You] just don’t expect something like that,” a neighbor said of Magana-Farias.

The priests will not be charged in the matter.
