(UPI) -- A California woman who was going to pick out a book will now have to pick out a name after giving birth in the lobby of a Barnes & Noble on Friday night.

Firefighters responded to a call about a woman in labor at the bookstore at about 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening, and arrived to find the scene a bit chaotic with confused customers.

“I don’t know if it happened near the classics or the nonfiction section -- but it was definitely smack dab in the store lobby,” said Capt. Steve Deuel of the Torrance Fire Department.

The firefighters were going to put the woman in an ambulance, but there wasn’t enough time.

“The baby made that decision,” Deuel said. “They went ahead and delivered a healthy baby boy.”

Witnesses took videos of the birth on their cellphones.

"A lady was in the corner, sitting on the bench and she just started kind of screaming," said witness Delia Ramsey. "Then there was another woman started rubbing her back pretty hard. She was leaning over and just started screaming, 'Get it out!'"

Another witnesses, Dave Delgado, added: "When we heard the last scream, the big scream, everybody came running and then just as I got on the other side of the bookshelf by the door, I saw a little baby.”

Luckily, the boy was born without any complications. "Soon as they got her on the gurney, the baby was here. I heard a little crying. It was really nice, everybody started clapping," Ramsey said. "I think they should name him Noble."
