(UPI) -- A grieving manwill not face charges for sprinkling some of his dead fiancée's ashes in a Florida LensCrafters.

The man, whose name was withheld, took the ashes to places that were special to the couple on Tuesday, according to Sarasota Police. Officials said the woman had a connection to LensCrafters in the Westfield Southgate Mall, so her fiancé left a spray of ashes in the store.

At the time he sprinkled the ashes, no one knew what the substance was. He fled the store shortly thereafter, and mall employees called the police.

The mall was evacuated and closed for two hours as Sarasota police and hazmat crews responded to determine whether the substance was hazardous.

The man later admitted he threw the ashes, and said he was only trying to mourn the loss of his dead fiancée. He could face civil charges to recoup the cost of the hazmat investigation, but police said they probably would not pursue those charges.
