A Colorado man was arrested on suspicion of horseback riding while drunk and faces animal cruelty charges after he was detained by authorities while en route to his brother's wedding -- 600 miles away.

Patrick Schumacher, 45, was stopped by police, who reportedly found a pug named Bufford in his rucksack, and beer and a small black powder pistol in one of his saddlebags.

Schumacher was detained after authorities saw him zigzagging in and out of traffic while slumping on his horse Dillon. He was then ordered to dismount and to take a sobriety test. He failed it.

The Colorado Springs man told police he was trying to get from Larkspur, Colorado to his brother's wedding in Bryce, Utah. He explained that he couldn't drive because he lost his drivers license.

Schumacher was then arrested and currently faces charges of animal cruelty. Bufford and Dillon were impounded by authorities.
