Aug. 9 (UPI) -- Russia recently enacted a controversial law banning the dissemination of "propaganda of nontraditional sexual relations around minors," and the anti-gay law has stirred debate over its enforcement during the 2014 Olympics.

But Bryan Fischer, Director of Issue Analysis for Government and Public Policy at the fundamentalist Christian American Family Association, spoke to Voice of Russia and possibly popularized the term "homorealistic," which right now only returns about 172 results on Google, including his.

"Russia is not being homophobic, it’s homorealistic -- the Russian government is trying to take the issue into consideration and establish public policy to contribute to public health," Fischer said. "Homosexual behavior is just as risky as drug abuse."

"I think the Russian government is right to be concerned with propaganda on teenagers who are at the age of struggling through sexual identity," Fischer said. "Homosexual behavior damages the body and soul. We love homosexuals enough to tell them the truth."

"Heterosexuality is God’s design. Policies that encourage young people to think this are good ideas," Fischer said.

Despite contradictory statements from officials and numerous boycotts of Russian vodka and the Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee said last week it has received "assurances from the highest level of government in Russia" that the law will not affect those attending or competing in the Olympics.
