July 3 (UPI) -- In a "Where are they now?" feature interview for Sports Illustrated, Dennis Rodman said there would be "something seriously wrong" if he isn't considered for the next Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts in North Korea.

“My mission is to break the ice between hostile countries. Why it’s been left to me to smooth things over, I don’t know. Dennis Rodman, of all people," the former Basketball star told the magazine.

“Keeping us safe is really not my job," he added. "It’s the black guy’s [President Obama’s] job. But I’ll tell you this: If I don’t finish in the top three for the next Nobel Peace Prize, something’s seriously wrong.”

Rodman, 52, befriended North Korea's Supreme Leader, Kim Jong-un during a visit he made to the country.

“Before I landed in Pyongyang, I didn’t know Kim Jong-un from Lil’ Kim,” Rodman said. “I didn’t know what country he ruled or what went on in the country he ruled.”

He claims the two bonded over a mutual love for basketball and referred to the dictator as a "friend for life."
