May 2 (UPI) -- A Pennsylvania man fishing in New Jersey said it took nearly 30 minutes to reel in a 58-pound bass he hooked in the Raritan Bay.

Julian's Bait & Tackle in Atlantic Highlands said in a Facebook post that John Callahan was fishing from shore on Sunday when he got his first nibble in about three hours.

The store said Callahan worked for about 30 minutes to reel in the fish, which turned out to be a 58-pound striped bass.

The post said Callahan was using bunker chunk bait.

The New Jersey state record for a saltwater striped bass is 78 pounds, 8 ounces. It was landed Al McReynolds while fishing in Atlantic City in 1982.
