Oct. 17 (UPI) -- A Washington state principal's encounter with a mountain lion lurking outside his school was caught on video by security cameras.

Bob Hagin, principal of Northwest Liberty School in Woodinville, said he was working in his office about 6 p.m. Friday when he investigated a sound outside his window and saw a cougar staring back at him and pawing at the glass.

Hagin called his wife to pick him up so he wouldn't have to walk home, and after she arrived security cameras recorded the moment the couple flipped the light switch in a darkened classroom and found the cougar again staring at them from outside a window.

Hagin said he was too stunned to grab a camera when he spotted the animal, but he later discovered the cougar's reflection in security camera footage.

The principal said officials with the state Department of Fish and Wildlife told him the cougar would move on from the area on its own.

"It was an amazing encounter," he told KOMO-TV.
