Aug. 16 (UPI) -- A Canadian woman's missing engagement ring turned up 13 years later stuck around a carrot on her family's farm.

Mary Grams, 84, lost the ring in 2004 while attempting to pull a weed on her farm north of Edmonton, and was called away to help her son before she could find it.

"I went to the garden for something and I saw this long weed. For some reason, I picked it up and it must have caught on something and pulled [the ring] off," she told Global News.

Grams said she had a general idea of where the ring went missing, but was unable to find it after several weeks of searching and decided to buy a replacement before her husband would notice.

"I didn't tell him, even, because I thought for sure he'd give me heck or something," Grams told the CBC.

About a decade later, after Grams had moved away from the farm, her daughter-in-law, Colleen Daley, found the missing engagement ring wrapped around a carrot.

"I knew it had to belong to either grandma or my mother-in-law because no other women have lived on that farm," Daley said. "I asked my husband if he recognized the ring. And he said yeah. His mother had lost her engagement ring years ago in the garden and never found it again. And it turned up on this carrot."

Daley helped Grams snap the ring off of the carrot, and the 84-year-old placed it around her finger and said she would make sure to keep it safe the second time around.

"Anything I do outside, I'm going to take it off and it's going to stay," Grams said. "I should've put it in a safe place in the first place, but I didn't."
