Aug. 4 (UPI) -- Commuters in New York's subway were met with an unusual delay on Thursday morning when a feral cat shut down service.

Passenger Daniel Roberts‏ tweeted the conductor informed riders a cat had entered the A train at West Fourth Street and service would be suspended until it was captured.

"There is a feral cat inside the train, police are trying to remove the cat, when they do, we can move again," the conductor said, according to Roberts.

The cat was reported on the train at about 8:17 a.m., halting northbound A trains between West Fourth Street and Canal Street and causing residual delays on the A, C and E lines.

Roberts said all the passengers immediately exited the train, as officials searched for the stowaway cat.

The cat was found and removed at 8:35 a.m and train service eventually resumed.

After the cat was captured it was taken into custody by the New York Police Department.
