Bear breaks into Colorado jail, escapes

July 6 (UPI) -- A Colorado sheriff's office shared video of an unusual suspect -- a bear -- committing an unusual offense -- breaking into jail.

The La Plata County Sheriff's Office tweeted a series of photos showing a bear inside a secure area at the County Jail after apparently scaling a fence.

"LPCSO Jail Break-in Tues as bear scaled gate into secure area," the department tweeted.

The sheriff's office said the bear escaped jail just as expertly as it broke into the facility.

"Eluded Deputies up a tree & fled on foot," the tweet said. "Exercised right to bear arms."
