June 29 (UPI) -- A runner in a Zimbabwe marathon ended up face-planting at the side of the road when he was charged by a race-interrupting elephant.

Video from the Victoria Falls Marathon on June 16 shows runners stopping to watch an elephant that ran into the road between them and some of their faster counterparts.

The elephant charges at a runner near the rear of the still-moving runners, causing the panicked man to fall flat on his face next to the road.

The man is able to get up and continue running as the elephant turns its attention to the stopped runners behind it. The pachyderm watches the people for a few moments before retreating into the woods.
