June 28 (UPI) -- A feral cat that helped a brewery in Illinois eliminate rats and other rodents has gone missing.

Chicago's Empirical Brewery shared a photo of Venkman, the grey tabby cat that disappeared from the brewery on Monday.

"We are sad to announce that our beloved Venkman has escaped from the brewery," Empirical Brewery said. "We are doing everything we can to locate our little buddy and bring him back home and would like to ask anyone who lives within the vicinity of the Brewery (especially south or west of us) to be on the look out for him."

Venkman was one of four feral cats the brewery adopted in Dec. 2014 to help with rodent control after traditional methods were unsuccessful.

He worked with Ray, Egon and Gozer, all named after Ghostbusters characters, to defend the sterility of the brewery's grain in exchange for the opportunity to live in the facility.

The brewery asked the community to provide any details about the cat's location and warned he may not respond to calls.

"He is a feral cat so most likely will not come up to you if called," the brewery said.

Empirical Brewery said Venkman has a microchip and was most recently sighted in the area on Tuesday.
