Police say they found gator during search of Rhode Island smoke shop

June 23 (UPI) -- Police in Rhode Island say they discovered an alligator in a makeshift tank during a raid of a smoke shop.

Richmond Police charged Edward Hauser, 43, for possessing the roughly 4-foot-long alligator named Gucci, during a search of his Pass the Glass smoke shop in South Kingstown, ABC 6 reported.

Police said they obtained a warrant to search the shop to search for illegal drugs and also seized 3.6 ounces of marijuana. {link: WJAR reported: "http://turnto10.com/news/local/police-find-alligator-inside-business-during-drug-bust" target="_blank"} the alligator was found in a large tank topped in a metal grate and secured in place with small free weights.

"Mr. Hauser did not possess the requisite permit, so members of the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management responded to retrieve the animal from the premises," police said.

Hauser will be arraigned June 29 following the June 8 raid.
