June 21 (UPI) -- A man highlighted a series of high-speed battles between autonomous sumo wrestling robots in Japan.

The nearly 6-minute compilation video created by YouTube user Robert McGregor features footage of the speedy robots attempting to knock each other off a small circular platform, which he gathered over several years.

McGregor's clips feature the mostly rectangular robots zipping around the small stage crashing into each other and performing lightning-fast turns in an effort to remain the last robot in the ring.

The robots are not controlled directly by humans during the bouts, {link:The Verge reported, instead performing a series of pre-programmed movements.

Robots are required to meet certain size and weight restrictions, but are otherwise allowed to implement various strategies and designs.

Although most robots featured in the video feature a simplistic design and implement some kind of star-shaped pattern, other robots feature large, movable flaps and instead opt to quickly rush in a straight line or spin around in circles.

Combatants are merely required to ring the opposing robot out in order to win, but some robots occasionally become dismantled or begin emitting smoke during the bouts.
