June 19 (UPI) -- A couple in Australia nearly missed out on $700,000 after checking their winning lottery ticket against the wrong week's results.

The couple nearly threw away the ticket they had purchased at Albany Lottery News and Gifts in May before deciding to double check the results and discovering they had one the Division One prize.

"I was ready to throw the ticket out but thankfully my wife decided to recheck it," the husband said. "Let me tell you -- once we realised we'd won it was a bloody long drive from Albany."

Upon looking at the ticket again, the couple realized they had checked the ticket against the wrong set of weekly results.

After realizing their error the husband and wife turned in the ticket and plan to use the winnings to purchase a new home and possibly take a vacation.

"We might also take a holiday because, let's face it, we're not getting any younger," the husband said.
