User NicheOfLess posted a photo to Reddit showing a piece of an avocado with a damaged pit and a small-caliber bullet. Advertisement "My friend found a bullet in an avocado that she bought from Sprouts," the user wrote, apparently referencing supermarket chain Sprouts Farmers Market. Redditors offered several theories as to how the bullet could have ended up inside the avocado. "This is probably one of those Mexican blood avocados I heard about in a Freakonomics podcast," one person suggested. "The gist of it is that cartels would essentially hold towns of avocado farmers hostage by making them pay protection money." Others suggested the bullet may have simply been close to where the avocado sprouted and the fruit grew around the metal object. Another commenter had a more simple explanation: "Squirrels eat avocados like crazy so farmers shoot them. Hence the small caliber bullet."
