June 13 (UPI) -- A Florida woman who lost control of her car and crashed into a concrete light post told authorities she panicked when a spider landed on her leg.

Mike Jachles, public information officer for Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, said the 27-year-old woman lost control of her Honda Civic before 9 a.m. Tuesday morning and crashed into a concrete light pole, which was felled by the impact.

The woman told Jachles she had spotted a spider hanging from a web inside her car and she lost control of her vehicle when the arachnid dropped down and landed on her legs.

"Not itsy-bitsy," Jachles quipped in a tweet with photos of the crash scene.

He said damage to the vehicle was severe, but the woman suffered only minor scrapes and bruises to her legs and minor facial injuries from the deployed airbag.

The woman was taken to Memorial Regional Trauma Center in Hollywood as a precaution. She was treated and released in the early afternoon, Jachles said.

"The seat belt and airbag saved her life," Jachles told UPI via phone. "Had she not been wearing her seat belt, the consequences could have been very different -- the outcome could have been very different."
