May 23 (UPI) -- Police in New York managed to lasso an escaped cow that attempted to evade capture by running across a local bridge.

Kingston Police Department shared photos of the large black cow that managed to break free from the back of a trailer she was being transported in.

After escaping the trailer the cow began to run north on U.S. Route 9W and later turned around and jumped over a guard rail.

The cow then attempted to run underneath the W9 bridge, but was trapped between a fence and several police officers who had responded to the scene to block her path.

"After 10-15 minutes, and quite the traffic back-up on 9W northbound, Sergeant Burkert was able to get a rope around the cow's neck," police said.

Officers then walked the cow back to her trailer, where she was reunited with her owner.

The cow sustained several minor injuries during her escape and her owner said she would be taken in for treatment.
