Subscribe | UPI Odd Newsletter Subscribe May 12 (UPI) -- A massive rotting carcass of an unknown sea creature washed up on an Indonesian island, and locals are asking for help removing it. Residents of Iha village on Seram Island said the 49-foot-long mystery creature, which some have hypothesized was a giant squid or whale before it started to rot, washed up Tuesday night on Hulung Beachand was first spotted by Asrul Tuanakota, who initially mistook the carcass for a stranded boat. Advertisement Patasiwa Kumbang Amalatu posted a YouTube video of locals inspecting the "mysterious" carcass Wednesday. A Facebook post from Mbs Sangadji included multiple photos and said locals are trying to get government officials or a research institution to help get rid of the remains.
