April 27 (UPI) -- A Florida couple said an alligator decided to sleep under their car and refused to leave for about 30 minutes while they tried to scare it away.

John Schindler said his wife was preparing to leave Eagles Point Apartments in Tampa when she noticed an alligator snoozing under the coupe.

The alligator was eventually coaxed out from under the car with help from the apartment manager and the maintenance supervisor.

The alligator was last seen heading back toward a nearby waterway, which is located near known gator hangout Lettuce Lake Park.

Schindler said it took about 30 minutes to make the alligator leave. Portions of the encounter were captured on video.

It's not unheard of for an alligator to use a parked car as a source of shade for a sleeping spot, Martin County sheriff's deputies were recently called to a West Palm Beach home to remove a 4-foot alligator that had made the underside of a family's car into its bedroom.
